It’s All About Jesus

This might sound like a simple, elementary idea, but I didn’t fully understand that for years. I knew what Jesus had done, and I knew the importance of it, but when Jesus ascended to Heaven and sent the Holy Spirit, the importance switched. I was watching a Bible college video and the pastor said the Church should be known for Jesus. Nothing else, just Jesus. My first thought was “what about the Holy Spirit? He’s the Person of God on the Earth today?” I still have the strong belief that the majority of churches today are ignoring the Holy Spirit due to a lack of teaching, and fear. Subjects such as spiritual gifts, baptism of the Holy Spirit, deliverance, and other topics are never mentioned in most churches. But it’s still all about Jesus.

Understanding the that God is a Trinity can be a complicated topic, I don’t want to get too deep, or make this into a theological post. There is a children’s book that describes God as the sun. The Father is the hydrogen and helium gases, Jesus is the light, and the Holy Spirit is the heat. All Three are the sun, they are all One, but also different. They do not exist separate from one another, but are experienced in different ways. Jesus makes it clear that He is leaving the Earth and will go to the Father who will then send the Holy Spirit to Earth.

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” John 14:26

What is the role of the Holy Spirit? In short His role is to point us to Jesus. Why? Couldn’t the Holy Spirit point us to Himself since He is God? Yes, but Jesus is the One who paid for our sins. Jesus is the One who was sacrificed for us. Jesus is the One who paid for our freedom. We can draw near to God because of the blood of Jesus. We get to enter Heaven because of what Jesus did. Jesus is the name above every name, in Heaven and on Earth. Jesus is above the name of God, above YHWH, Holy Spirit, and above Jehovah. It’s all about Jesus.

We need to proclaim the name of Jesus. We need to ask and pray in the name of Jesus. We need to have an understanding of our identity and position in Jesus. Plenty of people believe in God. Believing in God has never gotten anyone saved and into Heaven. It’s never freed anyone from bondage. Believing in God has never changed anyone’s life. Believing that Jesus died and rose again to pay for our sins is what saves us, what makes us righteous, and what transfers off of us the judgement we all deserved. The entirety of God’s judgement and wrath was transferred from us and placed upon His Son Jesus.

God came to Earth as a Son, as the perfect example for us to follow. Jesus walked on Earth as the Son of God so that we would have an example to live by as children of God. Jesus then asked the Father to send the Holy Spirit to remind us and help us.

The Holy Spirit is here on Earth now to remind us of what Jesus taught, which was how to live as a child of God. The reason the Holy Spirit is here today is point us towards what Jesus did for us. The signs and wonders that the Holy Spirit performs through us are to point people to Jesus. Why? Because Jesus is the source of our freedom, our salvation, and our new life. The Holy Spirit doesn’t have a less important job, even though people neglect and deny His work. Jesus said that it was for our benefit. The Holy Spirit is able to point many more people to Jesus than Jesus could while He was clothed with humanity. Jesus said that He had much more to teach us, so much more that we wouldn’t be able handle at the time (John 16:12).

The Holy Spirit is our guarantee of salvation. He is reassuring people of their salvation in Christ, ensuring we don’t forget what we have.

“the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession” Ephesians 1:13-14

“He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.” 2 Corinthians 1:21-22

Remember that the life you’re living is by Jesus, for Jesus, in Jesus, and through Jesus!
